The Veil

The Veil is a sort of curtain of magical energy that acts as a border between the human world and the Kaiju Realm featured in the Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters series.

Plot[]

In the world of Duel Masters, other-worldly creatures, “kaiju”, once co-existed peacefully with mankind for thousands of years. All was peaceful for centuries, by some among creature-kind felt humanity had grown too numerous and powerful and that they should be enslaved.

The great kaiju wars raged for centuries and it seemed inevitable that they would destroy each other. The war came to an abrupt end when five shaman masters partnered with the five creature monarchs to save both worlds. The monarchs willingly allowed the five masters to siphon their mana so that they could cast a spell to create the veil.

Nearly all of creature kind were sent to a new dimension parallel to the human world. With their mana drained, the creature rulers fell into a deep hibernation. The Order of the Kaijudo Duel Masters betrayed the monarchs trust, continually siphoning their mana and keeping them asleep for thousands of years.

There are certain places around the world where the veil in weak, and in these places, mana bubbles up to the human world, like wells. Occasionally, the Veil tears open in these weak areas, allowing creatures to cross over to Earth with frightening regularity. The Bermuda Triangle for example is a permanent weak spot in the veil, one that is opposite to the border between the Water and Light civilizations. It is the purpose of the Kaijudo Order to protect the human realm by sending these creatures home and closing the veil breaches they came from.

From time to time, the veil experiences what is known as "Butterfly effects", in which a major incident in the creature realm echos through the veil and manifests in the human realm as things like fires, storms, or even earthquakes. In some cases, it can manifest as stranger phenomenon, such as fish raining from the sky or flowers stretching their stems and spraying water like a hose. The greater the phenomenon in the creature realm, the worse the butterfly effect will be.
